Introduction
The Design Engineer for our corporate office is part of the Custom Engineering Division. Working under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Engineer, the Design Engineer will assist in the design and analysis of non-structural systems for commercial construction applications. This is a unique opportunity for an engineering professional to contribute to innovative projects while advancing their skills and experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform engineering calculations and compile all relevant information into comprehensive, installer-friendly packages.
- Collaborate with Technical Support Engineers and Structural Engineers to create professional custom-engineered details and calculations.
- Provide drafting and design support with an emphasis on producing constructible, presentable, accurate, and easy-to-follow designs.
- Understand, clarify, and control project scopes of work, ensuring projects remain within scope and budget.
- Assist in developing quotes and cost analyses for projects.
- Develop cost-effective engineering standards and solutions.
- Interface with third-party review entities such as project design teams, engineers, plan checkers/reviewers, and local authorities.
- Provide engineering guidance and information to ISAT sales staff and clients via phone, in person, or in writing
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in structural analysis/design of various building and non-building structures, including non-structural components. Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
- Progress toward or possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- Familiarity with building codes and standards such as CBC, IBC, ASCE 7 (Chapter 13: Design of Non-Structural Components), ACI 318 (Chapter 17: Design of Concrete Anchors), AISI, NDS, and AISC steel provisions.
- Proficient in software such as RISA-3D, Enercalc, STAAD, MS Office, MathCAD, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, SolidWorks, and Anchor Design software.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ingenuity in completing tasks and developing new solutions.
- Special consideration for knowledge of mechanical, process, electrical, plumbing, and/or fire protection systems, including engineering terms and construction experience.
Development Opportunity
- The company provides funding for PE preparation and testing to successful candidates without a PE license.
- All relevant PE license application/renewal fees are covered by the company.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position, such as standing or sitting, for at least 50% of the time.
- Occasionally move within the office environment to access filing cabinets, copiers, and office machinery.
- Constant operation of office productivity machinery, including computers, peripheral devices, calculators, copy machines, and printers.
- Occasionally ascend/descend stairs and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to maintain files and work area.

ISAT Total Support /Tomarco is a leading provider of seismic engineering consulting services and the related products and hardware used for nonstructural seismic bracing and the support of Mechanical, Electrical, and Piping systems. Our focus is geared toward building utility systems within the commercial and industrial construction markets. Our primary focus includes but is not limited to, HVAC, mechanical, piping, distributed electrical systems, plumbing, process piping & fire protection contractors. Headquartered in Southern California, ISAT also has offices in Northern California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Georgia, North Carolina, Chicago, Atlanta, New Zealand, New York, Texas, and Puerto Rico. Additional expansion is expected.
Purpose/Summary
Workload – Responsible for leading the Project Management Group. In that capacity, the role will include the following responsibilities/experience:
- Primary Technical Contact: Is a self-directed primary contact for ALL ISAT technical support aspects of any assigned project.
- Proficiently track multiple projects: All at once along all aspects of assigned projects; as well as overseeing all Junior PM’s work associated with your projects. Is ultimately responsible for work quality of all assigned projects.
- Project Manager/Modeler Training: Assists the Branch with the training of all new modelers and PMs at the branch.
- Field Training/Support: Able to provide jobsite seismic bracing training to installers and Junior PMs and detailers. Able to deal with field support issues with the DSE, IOR, FLSO, ACO, etc.
- Generate Quotes: Takes the lead technical role working directly with the Salesperson and Branch PMs to help generate the scope of work forms, and quotations for seismic services. Understands differences in projects, customers, design teams, and even AHJ’s and their impact on project scopes and how it is related to cost.
- Technical Field Support/OSHPD Support: Able to speak on ISAT behalf in all forms of correspondence and face-to-face meetings. Most importantly representing ISAT in front of OSHPD or any AHJ and able to answer or derive workable solutions to all issues.
- Code Knowledge (Advanced): Understands the ins and outs of the building codes ISAT manuals and associated engineering. Able to understand the applications of the IBC, ACI, ASCE, OSHPD CANS/PINS, etc. Use this knowledge to help project managers, modelers, and detailers with their tasks.
- Product Knowledge (Advanced): Deal with multiple projects and applications of our entire line of supported products. Able to create and catalog new applications of support systems and help create better solutions for the future. Catalogs and maintains a log of hot-button field issues.
- Knowledge Beyond the Manual: Capable of managing and developing bracing solutions not specifically identified or provided within the ISAT manual.
- Retrofit Management: Project management of Retrofit projects, including coordination of site surveys, documentation generation, and coordination of any calculations required for bracing of suspended utilities and/or floor mounted equipment.
- Large Scale Project Support: PM’s may be required to transfer for extended periods to support large scale projects outside their local market.
- Ability – Shows ingenuity in completing tasks. Self-motivated and able to work independently for extended periods of time. Strong knowledge of building codes and standards with particular emphasis on the California amendments for OSHPD and DSA type work. Capable of creating custom submittals for engineered conditions. Consistently produce accurate and thorough work. Works to increase the level of responsibility. Actively looks for, develops, and shares better solutions or ideas. Appropriately selects most economical design solution.

Communication: Able to communicate in all forms of correspondence for tasks related to projects you are associated with. Communicate effectively; improve company’s ability and knowledge by sharing creative solutions and ideas. Creating Transmittals, sending follow up
emails after Coordination meetings, etc. Additionally, all such communication needs to be electronically documented in project folders.

Purpose/Summary
The VDC Specialist I is crucial in facilitating interdepartmental communication, ensuring task completion, and coordinating activities across various teams within the organization. This role combines technical proficiency, industry knowledge, and effective communication skills to support the successful execution of projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to present technical material and interpret contract documents, drawings, and project schedules.
- Knowledge of building codes, LEAN construction techniques, and LEED principles.
- Proficiency with BIM applications such as Navisworks Manage, Autodesk Point Layout, Trimble, Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and BIMTrack.

Qualifications
- Posses BS in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in conducting ASME B31 pipe stress analysis
- Mechanical PE license, preferably in the state of California (Preferred, all levels considered)
Special consideration will be given to candidates with a working understanding of the following: Mechanical, Process, Electrical, Plumbing, and/or Fire Protection system basic construction; including engineering terms, drawings, and trade-specific experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assessment of piping systems to determine the need for flexibility analysis and whether a formal analysis is necessary per the appropriate ASME B31 code.
- Perform ASME B31 pipe stress analysis using hand calculations and analytical methods with software to evaluate sustained, pressure, displacement range and occasional loading requirements as outlined in Chapter 2 of ASME B31.1.
- Use of Autopipe, STAAD, Solidworks FEA and hand calculations for piping analysis and support/restraint design in a 3D environment.
- Coordinate and communicate with clients in a 3D environment using Revit, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD Fabrication CADMEP, Navisworks, etc.
- Working with in-house Structural Engineers, develop a series of (standard) installation details to anchor/guide pipes to accommodate the loading conditions determined during analysis to include details for shaft risers, wall mounted systems, systems supported by moment frames, vibration isolated systems, etc.
- Understanding, clarifying, and controlling project scopes of work.
- Assisting in developing quotes and cost analysis for projects.
- Developing cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Develop a thorough understanding of relevant building codes and standards as they relate to pipe design, thermal stresses, and seismic loading to include (but not limited to): ASME B31 codes and standards, ASME BPVC, NUREG, MSS standards, International Building Code (IBC), ASCE 7, and ASHRAE.
- Engineering statics, solid mechanics, fastening design, anchor/beam calculations.
- 2D/3D CAD detailing of supports on MEP systems in 2D/3D AutoCAD drawings/models.
- Interface with 3rd party reviewing entities including but not limited to project design teams, engineers, and local authorities.
- Answering engineering questions and providing information to clients on the phone, in person, or in writing.

Purpose/Summary
ISAT Total Support is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Civil Engineer to join our Pipe Stress Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing detailed pipe stress analysis, supporting project teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in pipe stress analysis and engineering, preferably within a utility or industrial setting.
- Proficiency in industry-standard pipe stress analysis software (e.g., CAESAR II, AutoPIPE).
- Strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI, API).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred but not required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Pipe Stress Analysis: Conduct thorough pipe stress analysis using industry-standard software tools, ensuring designs meet all relevant codes, standards, and specifications.
- Technical Support: Provide expert technical support to project teams, clients, and stakeholders. Address technical queries and resolve issues related to pipe stress and piping systems.
- Design Review: Review and validate piping designs, including isometric drawings, P&IDs, and 3D models. Identify potential design issues and recommend modifications to optimize system performance and safety.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed reports, calculations, and technical documentation related to pipe stress analysis. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all technical documents.
- Project Coordination: Work closely with project managers and team members to ensure projects are executed efficiently and within deadlines. Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
- Compliance and Standards: Stay current with industry codes, standards, and best practices related to pipe stress analysis. Ensure all projects comply with applicable regulations and standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in initiatives to improve processes and methodologies within the Pipe Stress Division. Share knowledge and best practices with colleagues to enhance team capabilities.
