ISAT’s MEP Survey Division was established in response to problems facility owners were experiencing associated with bloated construction costs on retrofit projects. It is not uncommon for accurate As-Built drawings of utilities within an existing facility to be absent, resulting in retrofit design documents containing vague language, such as “contractor to verify field conditions”.
This type of ambiguous language on drawings forces contractors to conservatively bid to accommodate risk associated with unknown conditions. Additionally, it is not uncommon for retrofit bid packages to go out for solicitation with “standard” seismic details that may or may not apply to the project. Unfortunately, this opens the door to change orders during construction caused by field variances in the design drawings and project delays to accommodate necessary design changes.
ISAT Streamlines As-Built Drawings by Integrating the Site Survey with the Utilities Seismic Design Simultaneously
ISAT’s Survey Division eliminates both of these situations by surveying existing systems while simultaneously designing the seismic bracing and supports in the field. This ensures accurate coordinated bracing designs for our customers, reducing installation bids and construction delays. Our survey team can be scheduled for day or night work, allowing flexibility for business-critical and essential service buildings to be occupied during normal business hours. Survey scopes typically include all utilities (suspended or floor-mounted) along with their associated equipment and components.
